Review :

Idiotic and enjoyable spaghetti western comedy

I remember surprisingly clearly when I saw the superb "Man of the east" in a television as a little kid and utterly loved it, even though it certainly was quite a long time ago. That crazy image of a wacky, foolishly dressed lad riding a bicycle in the middle of a dusty wild west town is something that I probably just found a pretty damn impossible sight to forget.

Yesterday, years and years afterwards I found this silly movie in the western section of my local video store and I just had to rent it immediately. To make this simple: "Man of the east" is poorly made, naive, illogical and idiotic and mostly because of it it's absolutely terrific experience.

Mario Girotti, better known as Mr. Terence Hill is one of the funniest if not the funniest guy in the history of westerns. His appearance is so firm and steady and in the same time simpleminded and his expressions are so self-satisfied I found it irresistible. I thought Trinity-films were excellent but this is a proof that he can also manage without Bud Spencer.

This movie is so incredibly stupid I can only love it! For example the scene where that bloke is waking up, carefully opens his eyes and gets the first glimpse of Sir Thomas More stretching in a sweater is simply hilarious! My brother who also watched "Man of the east" described it as "the best Terence Hill movie". He might just be right. I you like dumb tongue in a cheek spaghetti western comedies this one is perfect for you. 8/10
